Thermal transfer printing uses a ribbon that melts onto the label, which makes it a different setup from direct thermal. Pirate Ship's label page is summarized as saying to buy direct thermal labels, not thermal transfer, unless your printer takes a 3-inch core; we have not re-read that page, so confirm it there.
